Kiwi was said to be a border collie, but we are pretty confident she's a collie x German shepherd mix. She's a bigger gal at around 65#. She is a bit on the chunky side, so she is on a diet.
Kiwi is pretty shy. We feel that once she finds her family she will bond closely, but she's never going to be a super social and outgoing dog. Kiwi absolutely needs a fenced in yard. Her previous home had a 5' fence and she was respectful of it. Her forever home will need to be prepared to take things slowly w/her and let her build her confidence w/time and consistency. Kiwi lived w/small children in her previous home, but given how shy she is, we feel she'd do best in a quiet, adult home. She is fine w/other dogs and lived w/another dog in her previous home (a rambunctious shepherd mix). She is fully house and crate trained. She is fine w/cats as well. Kiwi has a thick coat like a collie. She seems to be fine w/being brushed, but please understand she will need more grooming then a typical border collie would (and shaving is not an option- for obvious health reasons).
Kiwi is a super sweet gal and she will be an amazing pet. She is a lower energy dog who will enjoy casual walks at the park or around the block. She really is very easy going once she's settled. She is a very easy dog- as far as house manners and energy levels. Kiwi's perfect home is out there and we are excited to help her find it.
We just got a WONDERFUL email from the owner of All Breed Obedience School for Dogs in Woodbury. They are offering a scholarship for Kiwi and her new family (once we find them) to attend their 6 week shy dog class (a $150 value!). This will help Kiwi build her confidence and her new family to help her continue down this road. Thank you, All Breed! If you'd like to learn more about this class (or their other classes), check out their website: www.allbreedobedience.com
