When they came into foster care we expected them to be very shy, reserved, even semi feral dogs- which is typical of mill dogs. However, they were not that at all. Kris warmed up to us w/in 12 hours and Elsa w/in 24 hours. They are super silly and love to run around and play. Kris likes to come up and play bow in front of you. He also likes to tell you about everything on his mind when he's excited- he is definitely more sheltie-like LOL
While these dogs are doing great so far they do still have some puppy mill traits- they are fine w/being picked up but generally go very rigid and still. They will jump so you can pick them up, but the "freezing" behavior seems to be continuing. They do want attention and will GLADLY come up to you for pets.
Kris is a silly boy who likes attention. He wants to be with his people. He's not quite as "nuts" as Elsa is, he'd rather tell you about his feelings LOL. We feel that he could be a fun sport dog- agility, obedience, probably even therapy type work to be honest. He's a very good boy and seems very receptive to learning. He will need a patient home who can continue to show him the world, but he really does seem to handle new things very well- especially considering his past.
Both Elsa and Kris keep their crates clean- even when it was -50, they waited to potty outside! They are doing well on their house training. They are fine w/other dogs but they are small and subject to inducing prey drive in larger dogs. They are fine w/cats. They will take treats but have no idea what a toy is.
At this time we are looking for a home who would like to do things w/Kris- train him, get his mind working, and show him how to do things. This guy is super sweet and seems to have a good off/on switch. I think he'd be a super fun dog to do things with.
We will be very selective on where these dogs go. Potential homes will require the following (if your home does not meet this criteria as well as our general adoption policies, it will not be considered- if you are an experienced sport/performance home who has intact show dogs but otherwise meets all adoption requirements we will consider your application)
