Like most Border Collies, Artie is super smart and he loves learning new things! He loves to work for treats, but he will work for praise and/or toys if conditions are right. He's is always listening to you and always in your area so that he knows what's going on. Artie is very polite in the house and will not bother with your furniture. He seems to prefer the floor when he dozes. Artie loves receiving affection from his humans and will often ask for it by sticking his nose under your hand or arm, but when ignored he seems happy to entertain himself with his toy stash. He LOVES toys! He will fling them into the air and catch them, or send them flying across the floor so he can chase them! He loves to chew, but never on inappropriate things, only his toys. Kongs and marrow bones are his chew victims of choice, but he will also chew pieces off of softer toys, so he will need to be monitored with toys that are easily destroyed. Tug is his favorite game, and he will play forever if you can hang on for that long!
Artie is housebroken, and when he needs to go outside he will ask by going to the door and softly 'woofing' at you. He is crate trained as well and is happy to chill quietly in his space until you let him out. His trick list includes sit, stay, lie down, shake (both paws) and wait. He is pretty good on a leash, but does pull a bit if something interests him. He's also proven to be good in the car.
Artie would do best in a home as an only dog (read: he does not want to live with other dogs/cats. Period.). He lived with another dog and a cat in his previous home but would MUCH prefer to be the only pet in his forever home. Artie has lived w/kids and has decided that part of his life is over too. He would do best in a home w/teenagers or just adults. Artie has respected the fence in his foster home. He could possibly live in a home w/out a fence provided appropriate actions were taken to ensure his safety. He could be a nice buddy for someone in a townhome or apartment. He'd love going for walks and to the park to play ball. Overall, Artie is a people pleaser and a very friendly, happy, easy dog! The eagerness and ease with which he learns could make him a fun trick dog prospect for someone.
