Pete is ball crazy and he loves swimming. If there is water, he's in it (lake, pool, water trough- it doesn't matter). He loves ball and will play until he drops LOL. We did manage to put an UKC dock diving title on him. He figured out the game quickly, but was limited by his physical issues (see below). He would love to continue, though...he really did think the game was a blast LOL.
Pete his house and crate trained. He has been fine with our other dogs, EXCEPT another intact male (Pete is now neutered, but he decided he didn't like one of our working dogs right off the bat- another intact male). He's been fine with female dogs and even non-dominate males. He does want to herd cats, so he can not live with them. Pete is super friendly and loves people of all ages. He can be a bit pushy w/toys, though, so older kids would probably be best. He respects a 4' fence. Pete has traveled to Montana with me and rides (crated) in a vehicle like a champ.
Okay, now onto Pete's physical issues. He was kept by the breeder until he was about 18 mo. In that time something happened and he broke his back leg (femur and pelvis). They repaired the femur (wired it). However it didn't heal correctly. When he came into rescue he used the leg more like a balance point/peg. Since his pelvis healed poorly as well, it was decided that an FHO would be his best bet. That was done in November 2020. Pete gets around fine, but honestly I don't see much improvement with the leg. It's possible that w/more consistent exercise he may improve use of it...or he may not. He's not in any pain and he's about as happy as it gets. At this point it kinda is what it is, however his future family should be aware that he is likely to develop arthritis in that leg as he ages. Due to his physical limitations we will NOT place him in a working stock home. We don't feel it's safe for him.
Ultimately Pete is a great dog. He would love an active pet home who will play ball with him, let him snuggle with them and take him for walks. He'd also love if they had a pool or lived on a lake too...lol.
